poly carb for armour?

where I work they are tossing out a bunch of polly carb scrap. would this work for armour paticularly hidden plates on the torso.
is there a way to test what kind of poly carb I have?

You get a piece of reasonable size, comparable to what you want to make (1/2 breastplate, 4x4" square, etc), and start whacking the crap out of it. Its called 'destructive testing' ;), you can use rattan, wood, hammers, etc, to determine what it takes to cause it to fail.

I've got no way of knowing what the stuff you have is. I can tell you that roughly 1/8 inch Lexan held up just fine for SCA combat purposes. Hitting that stuff with rattan didn't do anything to it.

Makes for some plug ugly looking armour if it isn't carefully covered and hidden though.

I used to test materials by hitting them from the roof of my house with a basball bat onto the pavement below.

It a hunk survived that i figured it's hold up to SCA fighting.
