yeah i live in the vancouver area and i did my research and asked around localy here and i cannot find any sheet metal sellers=( im just lookin for some 18 guage steel and its so far been impossible lol.

any ideas?

Somewhere there should be an industrial park, and I can almost guarantee in a city the size of Vancouver you have a steel dealer there.

Also, a good way to find one might be to contact welding supply shops and ask them. If they dont sell steel directly, they almost surely know who does.

Have you checked the yellowpages? I was having the hardest time finding metal until someone told me to use the yellowpages.

Metal Supermarket in Burnaby...just off of hwy 1, between it an lougheed hwy. I can't remember the exact exit.

I just bought a sheet of 18 mild about a month ago, 4'x6' for about $80. They also have piles and piles of various off-cuts lying around.

Some advice, since you are (if I recall) new at this? Get them to cut a full size sheet up into smaller sections for you. Figure out the largest single piece you will need and get it chopped up into those size pieces.

It's much easier to cut out armour bits from a small piece than a full size piece.

There are apparently cheaper places to get steel in town, but you have to talk to someone in the know about those...and usually buy larger quantities.

Somebody at one of the phone numbers that come up can tell you something about where to get sheet metal from. Once you know their number, you can call them about gauge and alloy.

If you don't have any luck with the places already suggested trying finding a metal fabrication shop in your area. I used to buy my 18g from one in Athens, GA because the local steel place didn't carry anything thinner than 16g. They may not always have it in stock, but they can usually order it for you.

I get all my steel from Metal Supermarkets now. Not only do that have just about everything, but they also deliver.

ABC Traders in Richmond carries a ton of scrap - mostly Al but there i plenty of mild steel and stainless as well in a variety of guages. There idea of "scrap" is andthing that is short of a 4x8 or 5x10 in immaculate condition so with a bit of poking around you can find pretty much what you need in about the right sized piece.

I find that Metal Supermarket while convienient is pretty expensive. If you are looking at full sheets call Alaskan Copper and Brass... they will only sell in full sheets and will need a minimum order if you want it delivered but they are good to deal with and have a lot of metals and guages in stock.
