Review: Gambeson by Jeffrey Watson

Post by Ivar »

I received the gambeson (shown here: http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/009759.html ) today-- it is beautifully made, with a lot of quality finish work that I didn't expect from a hobbiest. The 100% cotton linen has that soft-but-weathered look and feel to it, and it is very comfortable. The fully enclosed sides are designed to fold in when tightened, instead of just being an opened sided garment, and the flap over the front gives that extra bit of comfort in a spear shot (I hope... wanna test it Owen??) The measurements I gave him were done by email, and he got it dead on. My only problem was that I had requested a 4 inch diamond quilting pattern, but I think this looks fine.

Even though this was designed to wear over my armour, I think it will last me more than few years. All in all, I highly recomend Jeff if you want a gambeson.

Excellent work, Jeff.

Just to clearify, the fabric is flax linen, the batting is cotton.

I'm really glad it fits well, thanks for the great review. I hope it works out well for you.
