wisby cuff pattern

Post by MarkH »

Does anyone have a pattern, or tips for making the patern for the actual leather part of the cuff for wisby gauntlets?
I'm trying to avoid wasting to much leather in experimentation.

Mark,
I have never made a pair of Wisby gauntlets, but I have made other leather gauntlets. That being said the only tip I can give is to work up a pattern using a basic cuff design from the pattern archive in poster board and wittle away at it until it has the correct look and size before you cut the leather. Poster board is a lot cheaper than leather, but it isn't as flexible.
Hope that small tip helps...

Which Wisby gauntlet are you refering to? I think that there at least 11 found. I think that most people use the cuff style from Wisby #2.

Maybe these will help.

The one I use is a section of a cone. I'm heading over to the shop tonight and I'll try to grab it, scan it and post it...

Ugh, too much to do before the weekend...

Rats... I'm sorry. I didn't get out of there till about 11.... mostly brain dead by then and I forgot it.... I'll try to get it posted soon.
In the mean time, I'll upload this VERY basic and unfinished patterning article.... but it talks about how to layout a conical pattern very much like the Wisby style cuff.... good luck!

Mark,
I can bring the pattern I used for my finger gauntlets to the war this weekend, if you like.

Thanks, that would be great.
In case nobody knows, Geoffry Scott made the most awesome set of wisby finger gaunts, I keep threatening to try and steal them
