Jeff Hedgecock is in LA.
I think he did the armour for "Army of Darkness" (which was accurate, though 100 years off...that's how Raimmi wanted it, no doubt...it is VERY nifty looking).
He's also all around top-notch, by my understanding.

Actually, that was Tristan and some others that did the armor for Army of Darkness, IIRC. Tristan runs a shop in Ramona by San Diego. There are a number of armor shops in San Diego but that drive is yet another pain.

Jeff Hedgecock is the mans real name - "Tristan" is his SCA name. His old shop was known as "Vorhut Fahnline", as it is seen in the credits - his new shop is of course Historic Arms & Armour (Historic Enterprises).

Same guy - like any normal businessman dealing wih real-world customers, he uses his real moniker, which is far more professional than going by some persona name.

His armour now is WAY better than the armour in "Army of Darkness" - due to some of it being oiberglass, and more to the point, over a decade of research and honing of skills since then.

I doubt he is looking to teach basics to apprentices - it is his full time business, and he needs highly skilled labor for meeting the needs of his clientel. Not to pour a bucket of cold water on the idea, but that is the reality of the situation.

well, thanks for everyone's help...
it seems as though i cant do armouring then...
My parents would not spend the money it would take for plate...(though i could make chainmail..)

Anyways, if anyone knows someone from the LA/Pasadena area that is an armourer, please post!! Thanks!

Fenix, you have tried hooking up with the local Society for Creative Anachronism, haven't you? Many an armorer has learned his first armoring and done his first armor project building armor for SCA fighting. There always seems to be somebody hammering something out in his garage.

Click on "Groups Near You" and hook up with a heavy-weapons fighter practice -- you're a bit young yet, but fighter experience often helps a new armorer with design.
