Unfortunately it is unlikely that using glue to make a linothorax is authentic. It is more likely that the linothorax was made using quilted layers just like a padded jack.

So if one goes with stainless -what gauge should one use?????

White Mountain Armoury sells 20 or 22 guage stainless lamellar plates. Since lamellar overlaps a bit you can get away with a bit thinner guage individual plates. Stainless is also pretty durable stuff.
