Ok well here's what they look like so far. Pics are crappy but you get the idea.

This one is the prototype gonna do a splinted cuff on it but I've got several orders for hourglass ones but I've got examples of them already and I get to keep this one. Not sure if I'll do more tonight or not.

Anyway whadya think?

They bridge the rattan and there's no gapping.

No it works actually. It's one lame long but the last lame rolls over in front of the finger tips. Closing everything up and keeping finger tips from getting crushed.

Looking at the first pic, shouldn't the area between the thumb and the rest of the fingers be rounded off to avoid cracking?

Other than that it looks good.

Very nice Matt, any idea on pricing these? I will be in the market come spring time. once I start the new job, and the poor student/no armor moratorium is lifted.

How much extra effort would be involved in doing a one-piece design like this, but done so that the finished product had a more wisby-ish appearance?

Real "hourglass" gauntlets are usually quite angular here (like Mat has done, or even more so). At first blush, it looks like a stress riser looking for an oppertunity to crack. Everything you may have learned in engineering classes says "don't do it!".
In fact it seems not to be a problem. I've never seen a gauntlet crack in that place. I've seen them crack in other places, but not there.

Mac Thamhais don't think I'll be doing the more rounded look that the wisby ones have. I made some really specialized stakes for these metacarpals. It makes them really fast to shape. To do a wisby shape I'd have to go back to doing it more of a manual way or spend another couple days making new stakes.

Mac thanks for that info. I may have been tempted to put a radius in there which would have made them less accurate.

Price on these was originally going to start at $350. That was before my price increase and I'd originally planned to do less lames so they're probably going to end up at $400 which is still quite a bit less then my finger gaunts. Once the prototype is done though the time it takes to make a pair may change that up or down will have to see.

whoknew will try to get pics on the inside when they're done. They're just on 1/2" leathers at the apex of the outside fingers.

Well I got a glove in it and put a thumb on. It works pretty good. Very solid and bridges the rattan nicely while allowing a good grip on a handle.

Need to put a palm strap on still.

The splinted cuff on the prototype is going to have to wait though. Customer is picking up his pair of hourglass ones tomorrow.
