Gauntlet Progress/shop pictures

Post by gmandragora »

Here are some progress pictures of my gauntlet project. They are supposed to be mitten gauntlets made to look like 14th century finger guantlets, for SCA combat.

This picture shows the brass pieces I milled for the knuckle pieces. There will also be a brass strip covering the weld at the wrist.

Here are some pictures of the shop where i work. It's medical instrument fabrication shop in a medical school (this is the "heavy metal" section)

My thanks to Master Cad for taking the time to talk to me about this project at Coronation.

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Those gaunts will be pretty sweet when they're finished. I'm a big fan of those knuckles! I always thought It'd be cool to do somethnig like that. Be sure to post when they're finnished!

Nice, especially for SCA gauntlets! I love the "urban camo" patterns on the shop drawers too!

Nice, I like them.

My suggestion would be to shallowly dish the finger lames so they flow together.

Currently they appear to be flat.

Nice work. How are the milled brass pieces attached? They look like they are flat on the bottom rather than having a post.

Thanks for the encouragement.

The lames are flat but articulate well on the leather. I tried to dish them slightly and I am going to go back to that; but I had so much trouble I put that on the back burner so I would have something finished.

The milled pieces are flat on the back. Originally I intended to rivet the leather holding the lames together onto the knuckle guard. I mocked them up with a screw and nut and thought how convienient that would be for maintenance. So I milled out the brass pieces and tapped the back so they will held on with flat top machine screws and a drop of lock tite.
