pitted steel for a helm!
i have aquired some rough finished 12 ga steel (pitted) it was covered with surface rust i cleaned it with mutratic acid and i am considering using it, it has no sharp edges but it does have hamered looking pits, does anyone have any examples of helms that are not polished smooth?

Well, there are certainly helmets in the archaeologcal record that look like that - but they've been neglected under the ground for the last few centuries. I think they look cool, but I don't think there'd be any like that in the Middle Ages.
