My Lady Friend (aka my Not-Girlfriend) is planning to make a nice linen surcoat for another friend who does a Templar impression. This time period is out of my usual stomping grounds-could anyone point me to some good info about accurate Templar surcoat construction? Any help would be appreciated.

I dunno about patterns, but I have some pics of Templars c. 1200 from one of their own chapels, if you're interested. It shows them in their surcoats - and they seem to ahve the applique' cross on the other shoulder from the one described in the Osprey Crusaders book. Interesting.
I think you could probably work up a pattern from trial and error based on these pics. You would at least know what you were aiming for.
If you like, I can email you the two images.

Not much of a pattern needed. It is basically a rectangle of fabric with a hole for the head to go through. The bottom of the rectangle should flare out, so either cut it that way or put in gores.
