SCA: Need photo of chinstrap attachment

self-explanatory... am trying to get a helm up to shape so as to not be dependent on loaner gear (or have one which I can in good conscience swap for one which is more persona-appropriate). The leatherwork is cake, obviously -- but I don't know any of the details for legality.

There aren't many legality details -- it's whatever holds your helmet on your head so it can't be pulled off by grabbing the helmet and bulldogging. Searching the site on "chinstrap" likely will yield all those 4-point attachments and pulley-cord variants on the 4-point that we've posted pics of lo these many.

The 4-point naturally makes a chin-cup type of chin strap, and they love the thing for its stability both up and down and face-to-ventail.

The four point attachment system usualy has one point in line with your temple and back a little bit while and the other point is usualy around the the jaw hinge.

a look at a football or a goalie mask would be a good indicator on where to place the holes.

For SCA use the chinstrap needs to do 2 things.

1. prevent the helmet from being pushed back and compressing/crushing your nose under sufficeint force. Depending on how you pad your helm, you may not need the chin strap for this.

2. prevent your helmet from leaving your head if accidentally pulled off.

Now, that being said, I prefer a 4 point strap that cups my chin:

Style of helmet can play into this too.

I have fought in one, and made something like 4-5 helmets where the only reason to put a chinstrap in them was because the rules (at that time) said that you had to have a chinstrap pretty much no matter what.
