Could well be this one, John Leverick 1350; http://www.themcs.org/churches/Ash%20St%20Nicholas.html

or remotely John de Ifield, died 1317?

Lorenz,

It does look a lot like that one. However, I believe there are a few with the hanging tassets (not sure that is the right word, scales?) so I was wondering where I could see the whole effigy. Looks like it is time to trip down to the library.

Chris,

Thanks, look forward to seeing the completed suite. I'm sure its going to blow some minds :D

Yes, you are correct, it is John Leverick . I may be misremembering but In Stothards, I thought they had not positively identified the effigy as Liverick’s. But it is that effigy. (For the cap)

For the Helm you have a different source or is it your own interpretation?

I have been working on this 1340's suit on and off and thought I would post some progress shots.
Last week I finally tried on the cap & helm (up until then I had only fit it on my head cast) Here is what that looks like:

Here are the legs to go with this suit. The Knee/ poleyns arrangement is taken from the “Leverickâ€

The legs are looking worthy of the hats they go with. Very pretty.

I love the interpretation of the fringe. Thanks for sharing. I am wondering how the cuisse, knee and shynbald will attach. Are they seperately attached to the mail, each other or something else?

Chris Im afraid to ask....are you planning on fighting in this suit?

Please say no....or if yes, that you have a force field around you.

He won't need a force field. Some poor shmuck from his side (or the other side) is gonna realize how amazing it is, see a shot incoming, shout out "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!" and then dive in front of it to prevent the armour from ever being struck. Hell, only way this man's gonna take a blow on this stuff is if he trips over a sacrificed body and just so happens to fall onto a sword or something.

This stuff rocks, btw.

Yes I try to fight in all the armours I have or make (If they are not just film costumes) I don't fight that regularly anymore and but when I do, after nearly 30 years of fighting I don't get hit that often! 8)

Not because I'm so good, but after 30 years I know who Can hit me, and I don't fight them!

You know, from time to time, I find myself wondering why I do this goofy medieval hobby.

I get to see stuff like this.

I can live without the NHL or whatever the hell it is "normal" people do.

Chris,

Thanks for explaning how you are putting the pieces together. Please do post some more progress pics. Getting the bits to work together is really a work of experimental archeology as the effigies just are not clear enough.

Gaston,

I am interested to know how well the electro-plating holds up on the bascinet with the sugar loaf resting on top. Even with a period or modern padding, I would assume that the plating material would be reasonably ablative.

So, after you have done some fighting in it, and a few people who normally can't hit you get their lucky shots in, let us know, please.

Falcone

P.S. Like others, I am in awe of the period work you do, and follow your modern fabrication endeavors with some fascination.

Chris, as I look at the leg more, I find myself wondering...

With the cuisse OVER the knee, unless the knee is really tall, won't the knee "eat up" the dangling leather the first time you bend your knee and then straighten it?

Hi there

Post by Pitbull Armory »

Hi there Chris, I can tell you that Ive never seen a sugarloaf that I liked as much as that one, and the cap is just awesome too. The repousse work is super nice, it makes me want to try to learn how to do it. Thanks for sharing.

Take care

Effingham
The knee cop is fitted to the leg and the top edge of the cop is sewn to the padded hose, so there isn't an edge or opening for the leather to catch on.
Most of the "floating knees" I see posted are too loose, I believe that they need to be smaller and closer to the leg, if fitted properly, they don't flop around at all, they just stay on the cap of the knee.
