Adapting Stephen of Forth Castle's helm liner to a sugarloaf

Post by Templar Bob/De Tyre »

While I was unloading the truck after Summer's End Tourney, I got to thinking about not being able to fight because I left my padded coif in the dryer.

Then I thought about how sweaty I get when wearing my visored sugarloaf with the blue closed-cell foam...

Then I thought about how my mailled coif slides down into my eyes when I'm fighting...

That's when it hit me:

I need to build a padded linen liner for my helm, like Steve (SoFC) has!

So this afternoon, I went to Hancock fabrics, and purchased twenty yards of the rolled cotton tubing. At only 79 cents a yard, it's perfect. It's enough to pad my sugarloaf, as well as pad my new Crusader Pot helm.

I have some leftover unbleached linen (seven ounces) from a project of Hushgirl's. I will use it for the helmet liners, and possibly to make another padded coif for my the Pot helm with the roll around the brow-line.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Wow! I didn't even know you could buy rolled cotton tubing. Can't wait to see the pictures of what it looks like!
