Actually correct for the kit I'm putting together, and if I can eventually get the right sabatons, they should look spiff, too (won't gild them b/c of the horse-sweat issue and general wear/tear, but may tool them up nice and purty once the current project's done).
Any SCA considerations for constructing shovel greaves? Are those "demi-knee" things actually required, or just used by guys who won't have any other protection covering the rest of their legs?

Not so much required, as a darn good idea to give good strong coverage to the connection between greave and knee articulations. It's really just one more articulation element. Somewhat arbitrarily, it's not numbered as one of the pieces in X- or Y-piece knees.
