looking back at your progress

Post by ruthardus »

how many of you who have been doing this for some time have eventually seen someone in your "beginning" skill phase armour and cringed? All my friends and clients know if something is wrong or broke on armour I made to bring it back and lets work on it.....but a few times lately I've seen people or helped people fix up old stuff i've made and I just about beg them to let me make a new one for them. That item has my name associated with it, and I feel embarassed looking back at some of them. As our skills advance our pride in workmanship raises the bar on quality, materials used, historical accuracy, function, etc.
I went so far as to replace a VERY old helm I made for a newbie about 7 years ago because I just could not let it leave my shop after fixing a few rivets on it. I'll eventually re-work it and give it to some other newbie to get them in the game...but....does anyone else out there get this feeling from time to time?

If this does not happen, then you have to worry.

Hell yes. A friend asked me what we could do to repair the articulation of an elbow we had built together. My response was 'Crush it with a sledge hammer and lets build another one." I shudder to think of some of the monstrosities that were once my best work. :(
