Cool gorget

Post by Cerebus »

Has anybody got either a source for buying or a pattern for such a gorget as this fighter is wearing?

It looks like one that Trplette sells.

I have seen these and they are sweet, I want one myself. Nice padded leather and stainless.

Geoffrey makes most of his own armour. I'll send him a link to this thread, maybe he can help you out.

simalar to triplets but some major differances the hinge and the roled edge for starters.
the design is actualy very simple the only inside curves are on the front piece of the gorget to cover the throat.
the hardest part is making the foundation garment as you may have noticed all of the pading and articulation is off of the leather piece underneath. the hinge and the rolled edge are not to bad if you have some experiance with that kind of thing.
not realy shure if it has a tie closhure or a snell hook probibly a snell hook would be more decorative.
but up to you.

Cerebus,

This gorget is pretty easy to make. There is a front and back piece and three "tail" pieces. The three tail pieces are attached to a single piece of leather using rivets. In my old gorget, I used jiffy rivets. Since this one is all stainless, I used flat head stainless rivets with the head & stainless washers on the inside. The rivets were trimmed to length and peined into countersunk holes so that they are flush with the surface. Each piece is slightly curved to match the top back piece and each other. The entire tail assembly is connected to the back piece with the same piece of leather, but this time I used round head rivets with the heads on the outside. The front & back pieces have the top edges rolled and are connected with a hinge. My old one just used a leather hinge on the inside. This one uses a handmade stainless hinge based off of the fancy looking one on one of the "inside" pics at the end of AaAotMK. The closure is done with a small strap and a homemade stainless buckle.

I will be at GWW next weekend and Estella in February if you would like a closer look. If you will be there, I can try to remember to bring the pattern, or you can just lift it off of the pieces.
