Things are going well on the new Klapvisor. Four days after breaking the last one, here's where I am. I'm liking the shape of this one better.

I recieved an E-mail from HvR asking for detailed photos on how I did the eyes from the one I broke

I'm preparing aphoto essay for him. If there is any interest I'll post it here.

Your on an Armour board!... ofcourse we are interested in your photo essay.

That face plate is coming along nicely. I have been kinda wary about raising stainless. It still is stainless right? I have found that it likes to crack too easily. Are you working it hot? Or do you have some uber secret of raising stainless that you are holding out on us. Oh and what type of stainless?

Yes, It's stainless; although I don't know what type -- scrap type.

The first one I worked cold with occasional annealing. Obviously not enough annealing. This one I've been working hot; I have learned my lesson, stainless cracks easy. I'm taking everything in steps.

The eyes on this second attempt are looking much more crisp and well defined. You have obviously picked up some technique knowledge during your trial and frustration with the first one.

Thank you for being so willing to share - really looking forward to reviewing your thoughts and technique.

Helmut,

Did you get my E-mail?
Oh, those eyes are from the first one. I've just started forming the new ones.

So far so good. I now have the basic shape I'm looking for. Tommorrow I will sharpen the eyes and begin bauging and planishing.

Yes - I did receive your email - your generosity in sharing knowledge is to be admired. I put the notes in a word document. Anybody that would like a copy please feel free to email me (ask for the original email or for the word document) and I will send a copy to you as well if you would like. (I am sure that Gmandragora would be agreeable as long as you gave him credit for anything that you did with it.

Rather large file, but well worth the download time. I have high speed cable and I downloaded it in about 30 seconds, if you are on dial up you will probably chug for a while.

Thank you so very very much for sharing Gmandragora!!!! It is attitudes like this that makes me proud to be associated with people on the archive.
