G'day All,

Looks like I will be making my own first suit of armour. I have a reasonable idea of the methods involved, and have acquired some of the parts I will need to commence construction, however, for the life of my I cannot locate a retailer in Australia that sells any type of paracord apart from the olive (ie Army) type, could anyone please recommend a site or shop that might have this product.

Regards,

Linse.

If you check a few pages back, I think there was someone else looking for paracord.

If you have a surplus store nearby, you "may" be able to find white paracord.

Another option is to check a skydive place, they may have some or would know where to point you.

I often use venetian cord (the stuff for blinds) you can get it at most curtain shots, hardware stores and sometimes places like Kmart etc.

I've also found synthetic and natural cord in the craft section at spotlight, not sure if its what your after but might be worth a look.

You could also try some of the climbing cord stuff from an outdoors shop like mountain designs but it usually comes in funky colouts and can be pretty stiff.

What are you making?

I got mine on ebay for about $15 shipped from the US. About 30m will do a lamellar vest.

Excellent, thank you for the info guys :) going to hit bunnings over the weekend to check out their venetian cord, had a look at the local spotlight, but they were not able to assist, will try one further afield.

Not sure what city your in...

but in Brisbane last week I saw Uptons (a large camping / army disposal store) had olive green paracrod for just over $1 per metre

If you want colorful stuff go to Anaconda or other climbing / outdoor adventure place (but its not cheap)

Walk into any yachting supply store (chandlery), Whitworths should be not too far for you.

You are after 2-3 mm SPECTRA cord. It is core and sheath rope and there simply is not anything commercially available that is stronger, less stretchy or better at resisiting reasonable amounts of side-wall abrasion.

It is what NEW paracord is made of.

In the 2mm size (available ina range of colours fomr the gaudy to the subtle brown, black and blue) is between .80c and 1.60 a meter. Whitworths sales are worth the effort, as is their by-the-roll discount.
