I wanna be a LANDSKNECHT

So I've been going back and forth between doing 14th c or Landsknecht for some time now, and the wife and I finally decided on Landsknecht. I have a complete Vikingish kit I can fight in, so I'm not in a hurry to rush out and cobble something together.

Been thinking about knee armour for such a setup, and I'd love to try to match the profile as closely as possible, and not have big bulky knees that stick out like a sore thumb. Not sure what others have done, but I was thinking of taking one-piece knees, and covering them with a couple layers of fabric or leather in different colors to approximated the slashed hosen appearance as in the picture.

Any thoughts?

If you can push the time ahead a bit into the 1540's and 1550's, they started wearing polyens on the ends of the tassets. I can post a picture once I get home. Then you would only need to hide armour for the shins and feet.

I also remembered that you could go a bit earlier as well (1500 - 1520) and use the armour of a light lancer. The later armour would have a Maximillian fluted surface and separate gauntlets.

Not for the first time you have me thinking that those slashed knees could be made in metal. Drill stop holes first then saw the slits in while they are still flat. They should open nicely when you dish. In theory. It might take a few extra attempts but you could probably sell your 2nd on Ebay regardless.

Most likely the "slashes" on those poleynes are just a recessed area like other examples of "puff n slash" armor.

Exactly, and the fancier versions would have etched designs in the depressions to simulate a brocade cloth.
