I WTB a Spanish Knight, 1275-1325, Hard kit, Soft kit, and politics. Any good reading suggestion a plus. Where they more Moorish or french influenced.
Thank you.
Thorstenn.

I find Medieval Iberia to be one of the most interesting locations and periods, and my gut feeling is that it would make a wonderful period for an SCA household because of the mix of cultures and ideas really makes it... worth doing. Unfortunately it is hard to research.
http://libro.uca.edu/aarhms/ is going to be your best bet for materials, and they ling to the libro of other Spanish documents (http://libro.uca.edu/).

In 1250 some of the larger iberian cities and towns have a craft guild of curaiss makes (likely a CoP) so likely something like that lots of mail, perhaps some leather bits (I am familar with some pictures of arms and leg harnesses that are from their trade partners but not iberian though) and a greathelm (imagine it was there as it was everywhere else in wesstern europe but do not quote me) like headgear and you are set. For SCA you'd need elbow and knee cops but not bad. I have not done extensive studies in this but Nicolle does have some good pics in the arms and armour of the crusading era.

Might be out of the time period you specified, but you might need an adarga.

As Leofwine pointed out, LIBRO is an excellent site. Everyone interested in this topic should have LIBRO bookmarked.
Also this should get its own bookmark (thanks for reminding me it is there Randall) (Thorstenn might only get a decade of overlap of overlap):

Mural paintings the Conquest of Majorca - James I's Camp,1285-1290 at Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya

From the Knights of Calatrava's monastic keep at Alcaniz. Murals show the conquest of Valencia in 1238, and upper floors were added to the keep before 1347. Some sources give a dating of 1390-1410 for the murals, but the attached mail mittens point to a date more likely to be within this thread's timeframe. The monk's garb is almost identical to those in the Cantigas Codex Florencia MS Banco Rari 20 .

Ernst for the Resurrect-O-Thread, three and a half years on! Aaaarr!!
Re: I WTB a Spanish Knight, 1275-1325
My understanding of the "I want to be.." threads was that they were supposed to be repositories of information for those interested in the listed area, not that we should be starting a new thread every time someone was interested in a given period.

Ernst,
You are right that is what they were for. The idea was not to have a million new posts on English knights from 1340 every time some one wanted to discuss.
Some good finds.

I think the better question is, is he a Castillian, Portugeas, Aragon, Navarre. As Spain did not exist yet.

St. Vilardell, c.1329--perhaps usable toward the end of our period of concern. Still lots of mail, and using a baldric instead of a sword belt.

Re: I WTB a Spanish Knight, 1275-1325
This is awesome! I am looking to make my Spanish knight of a later period 1330-1399 in Sevilla. I was wondering if we had armor resources (specifically arms, torso and helmet) as the effigy I have found doesn't show any of those elements.

Re: I WTB a Spanish Knight, 1275-1325
Excellant sources, as I have been trying to do the arms and armor of a member of the grand company. Am I out of line in assuming that cotehardie would be right for that period.
