Belt mount madness

I ordered some belt hardware (buckle & chape & mounts) from Mac at Billy and Charlies earlier this week to work on a belt for my girlfriend's garb (her second official piece of garb. The first being the purse I made for her last week). Also this is her gift from me to her on our anniversary. (I totally forgot it was this weekend...but it was like "Oh honey. Yes. Of course I remembred...I've been working on something especially by my hand for the occasion...")

As crazy as it may seem there are 44 seperate belt mounts on this belt (not incuding the buckle and chape!). I made small backing plates for each of the 44 mounts (as I've had pewter mounts pull off of belts in the past), which I think is the dictionary definition of tedium. Each backer was cut to be dime sized or smaller, multiple holes drilled in each , and deburing and sanding smooth before each mount could be peened in place.

So...3 nights of work later:

The buckle and chape are the bumps and dishes as seen on Billy & Charlie's web site. And the letter mounts spell out a notable quote in latin from Virgil:
"amori * vincit * omnia * et * nos * cedamvs * amori

Which of course means "Love conquers all (things); let us (too) surrender (to) love". I thought it was appropriate as an Atlantian, it's against our nature to give in, so this is my gift (on our anniversary) to announce to her and the rest of the world that she has conquered my heart, and I am hers.

Thanks go out to Mac for making such lovely mounts (I can't imagine how he can afford to stay in business with prices like his) and for the fast shipping and filling of my order.

Sorry for the poor pics. My dieing camera does no justice to Mac's fine goods.
