Getting ready for the demo we do this weekend with the Adrian Empire. Its our favorite demo of the year.

Drafn from the SCA also does it as an independent non-profit.

Drafn demonstrates brick oven cooking, leatherwork, blacksmithing and rattan fighting.

The Adrian Empire group (Archduchy of Brandenburg) is planning to demo riveted maille making, butted maille making, armoring, open fire cooking, Viking games, handsewing, woodcarving and making fishing line as 3rd person living history.

Adria is not really a 'viking' group (though we all know Scandinavia didn't fall of the earth on 1066..). But at least we can easily say "Viking period costume is expected." and people will make an effort. Sheridan asked if there are enough people interested in doing the So. CA timeline events as vikings? I didn't know, so I thought I'd check.

We're not going, but FWIW Drafn's bronze casting people will be there with their gear.

I think we do ok considering we are not at all a Viking reenactment group, and few have anything close to Viking armor, but we make some effort to look cohesive.

Some of the people from the club sponsoring this event who used to wear fur miniskirts, wigs and plastic horned helmets. They have improved a LOT.

Mostly we focus on teaching in 3rd person about various material culture aspects.[/img]

I was there Saturday and had a great time!

If anyone knows who the blonde female SCA fighter was (said she normally arches) pass on my gratitude to her. She made my daughters day by talking to us in armor for a while.
