Thats always the case with the really good stories, you need to be able to do the gestures.... I've got to admit it sounds damn interesting....
I guess you guys are in the US of A, where abouts are you and Pavel?
Yeah you definitely need the hand gestures, it gets told at once a Lilies and Pennsic I would believe.
Well Pavel is down in Grimfells which is in Arkansas and I am almo0st dead center in the United States in Spinning Winds, which is Manhattan Ks.
Lol now I'm going to have to research Pavel and see what else has happened to him!
I'm in Aachenfeld in Lochac which is the area north of the river in Perth Western Australia.
It's a little remote here...

LOL, yeah just a little. Pav is just one of many Calontir's legendary notables. I'm sure you guys have your own legendary figures. In fact I wonder why people even worry about historical religions when we have own Society Myths and Legends.

I am on the eastern edge of Calontir, actually 37 blocks into the Middle Kingdom Hannibal MO is the closest town in Calontir about 20 miles down the Mississippi. we are 100 miles up river from St. Louis.
I am 8 hours from Grimfells and about 5 from S. Winds.
Possibly the second or third most crazy character in Calontir is now residing somewhere in Lochac, Duke Sir Sheridan.

There are a few names over here that are spoken with hushed reverent tones...(: it helps that most of them are good guys and not utter doushe bags...
But you're right about Society myths and Legends, I honestly think it would be worth exploring the subject a little more and seeing how the populace reacts.

Maybe do a compendium of Known World Myths and Legends.

*Sigh!*
You do realise that I'm now going to have to track down Duke Sir Sheridan and see for myself how bonkers he really is... Hmmmm! We have a Crown tourney this weekend. They normally attract Dukes like... Like.... Like...? A Duke attracting thing....
But if you want remote, I just moved back to the city from Gnowangerup in the Great Southern region, look that one up on google maps for an idea about remote and that was a "busy" spot...

For years I've wanted to start a truly amazing book. A collection of stories of those regional legendary and nearly mythological people of the SCA. The stories that are just amazingly hilarious or perfect examples of the dream.
Stories like the one about Duke Morguhn Sheridan of Aethelmearc being at the bottom of the pile of fallen soldiers. The heralds called for the dead to clear the field and everyone could hear this strange sound. Thinking someone was hurt a couple of friends of His Grace start pulling people off. Turns out here is Morguhn on the bottom giggling insanely. Turns out he had just tripped and wasn't hit at all!
I think it'd be a blast to collect these stories and write them all down in a book. If I could manage to do it in calligraphy it would be even cooler. *laughs* Who knows the stories you might get!

Do it!
Start a thread asking for stories and then when they start rolling in. Grab your local Herald and hit them with it.
I'd buy a copy in a heartbeat and so would the rest of the populace, I'm sure of it!
Or!
Get people to put quill to parchment themselves and send it to you to be compiled.
Either way, a very cool idea...(:

Why would I need to hit another herald to do work I can do myself? *laughs* Not to mention if I want good calligraphy I'm not going to a herald, I'm going to see a scribe.
I should do it but it wouldn't be as fun as hearing the stories in person. Everyone gives the short version online.

Well you could ask Pavel about the "Order of the Ancient Fewmet" aka OAF or about the royal whim "Pavel shall not bite the Royal Tush"...
Thomas (One day I will be in reach; so I'll offer him a drink and trade diabetes stories with him...unfortunately I moved away before I built him the helm from a stainless steel bedpan and etched the cross of calatrava on it ...)

Doh! Sorry about that, (note to self put brain in gear before opening mouth...)
True. But a short story is better than no story!

Do you mind if I ask what make Sheridan crazy? I've met him a few times at fighter training and monthly bash, and he seems quite normal.

No, that wasn't the reason. The reason he gave another kingdom's royalty was much more... colorful. PM me, and I'll tell you.

Oh I know the real reason, but according to the song, the stupid creatures still can't fly. In other news however, I was looking around and found proof that SCA doesn't need to recreate religions, we have our own.
