Thank you, Paulus. This looks like a valuable resource.

I remember when you could get many of these things in a well stocked hardware store. Of course, I can remember when you could still *find* a hardware store.

Glad to help out!

Clang helped be build a baskethilt for a 17th century hanger last fall. I wanted to secure it with a square nut, but finding one was almost as difficult as making the basket. Luckily, we have a small old fashioned hardware store close to where I live and he had a small stock of "stove bolts" with square nuts.

I tend to save square hardware when I run across it at the scrap yard---just picked up a sq nut for a 2" diameter bolt that looks to be hand forged. When you have to replace the pivot bolt for a post vise it's nice to be able to do it with a sq headed bolt and nut. (and you can forge a hex head square fairly easily but that tends not to be the case with a nut!)

Of course that "Period Correct" is all made from materials that date 250 years after 1600; perhaps Period Correct *style*?
