These are resin and have a modern brass pin back (military style). The Outlands badge on the left is 1" tall. I haven't cleaned them up or painted them yet.
I made the molds using a laser and laser engravable stamp rubber. You can see I forgot I wasn't working with positives and forgot to do a horizontal flip on the images before engraving. The Outlands populace pin on the left needs to have a larger border and, I think, a slightly smaller stag. The vulgar gauntlet I'm pretty happy with. It needs to be cleaned up and painted. You can have the molds made for you by a service like Ponoko or you can make your own using hand tools (dental tools, a dremel, etc...) Or, if you're feeling extra clever, you can make a positive and then make your mold using Sculpy. I'm working on writing this all up into a tutorial.
The material is two part epoxy putty. I used SteelStik because it was cheap and readily accessible at my local ACE. It's actually a fairly poor choice since it's also an adhesive and I have to spray everything with liquid silicone (Liquid Wrench) to keep it from adhering. I have an idea about using SteelStik to make belt ornamentation (among other things, obviously) and I'm experimenting with that. Right now the basic idea is to make a raised piece out of several stacked layers of leather (as was done by Rayner and Pitbull Armoury here on the Archive) and have a cutout in the top layer to make an indentation. I'll fill that with the epoxy putty and then stamp a design into it. Once painted it should look pretty good. I'm not sure about durability, however. I hope to make a test piece this coming weekend and then start whacking it with a stick.
