Claire does nice work. She has been very good to me. She does all of the clothing for my kid's costumes. We didn't do one last year, but the year before was Elizabethan (well, the Italian version of that) and it was glorious.

Re: Show off your 'Soft Kit' 2013!
While moving into the new place, I snapped a couple of pics of my clothing modeled by my buddy Manny. Though my height, he's quite a bit lighter than I am (standing at 6'2, he'd only be around 175-180 if he weren't made of fiberglass) and has a bit of a pinhead. I have about another 3 inches around the chest, and another 8" around the waist.

Wearing my new doublet and breeches at Military Through the Ages at Jamestown. Both are completely hand sewn, I also made the trim, buttons, hooks and eyes, and points for it.

Looking good Anthoneye!
I know nothing of your time period/culture; but th ehat doesn't seem to "mesh" with the rest of the outfit. Would you mind giving a few details about the hat?

Re: Show off your 'Soft Kit' 2013!
Thanks! Alvar has it on the details of the cap, it's a Monmouth cap. While it does look modern, it is very correct for the time period. There are some additional details and a pattern at http://www.personal.utulsa.edu/~marc-ca ... nmouth.htm.Halbrust wrote:Looking good Anthoneye!

The next parts of the kit I'll be doing are a pair of cloth hose (out of the same wool as the doublet) and a knit pair of garters (from the leftovers of the cap). Before MTA next year my plan is to do a pair of leather gloves lined with rabbit fur and a wool cassock. Assuming I get both of those done, I'm guessing the weather will be 80 and sunny.

Yes! It's heavy linen with hand embroidered linen applique. It's my third attempt to make a surcoat, and each one gets a little better. I learned a lot about sewing, fabric, linen, flax, thread and medieval stitches doing them. It turned out to be more fun than I thought it would be to make it, and the result looks great even up close. Thanks for asking, I'm proud of how it turned out!MJBlazek wrote:Nice surcoat too Scott! Re: Show off your 'Soft Kit' 2013!
Not really new, but the first pictures of some of this that I've had a chance to get... but really I wanted pictures of an orthopedic device I made a while back. Given my tendency at events to wear low shoes with no ankle support, I thought it might be nice to have something like this in case of a foot/ankle injury at Pennsic. Its based on peg-leg-like things I've seen in art by Bruegel the Elder and Bosch.

Destichado, I have heard mistress Crespine is an awesome tailor. I have seen several examples of her work floating around. In fact I saw your soft kit at harvest days last year. Couple other events in fact. Your kit looks better in person! Did she do the work?

Anthonye, great job. I'm so impressed that you did the peascod, since you don't have a "natural" peascod . It's rare enough for guys doing 16th century to get the waistline in the right place.

Re: Show off your 'Soft Kit' 2013!
I just finished Jeff's 1450 doublet for La Belle's upcoming Kalamazoo presentation. Be there or be square! I'm going to be square...
I started just before Christmas, and have been putting finishing touches on it for several weeks now. It's entirely hand sewn, and hand quilted. The outer shell is fustian from 96 District fabrics, and the lining is linen from same. Most of it is about 7 layers of linen, plus a layer of cotton wool. The top of the shoulders consists of a LOT more layers - before quilting, it was literally 3 fingers thick.
I'm most happy about the collar, fit and style. It's what really differentiates this style from the earlier 15th century, where you don't really see that scoop. It's just a little too early for the balled shoulder sleeves that you see in the Wars of the Roses time frame. He will be wearing this with his Avant suit. It's already got the maille sewn on - I can post a pic of that later, but that's not soft kit anymore.
The full set of pictures can be found at my fb page:

I have some construction pics, too, if anybody is interested.

No, not on that kit, that's all Gwen's work from Historic Enterprises. Very happy repeat customer.Uilliam Le Syngur Ingelrie wrote:Destichado, I have heard mistress Crespine is an awesome tailor. You're right though, Crespine is an outstanding tailor and seamstress. She made my green summer doublet, which looks like it could have been taken straight out of a painting, but I don't think I have any pictures of it since it was too cold to wear when she finished it.
See if you can find pictures of Mistress Felice's elevation. Mistress Crespine made that outfit from the skin out, and it's *glorious*!

Thanks Tibbie. Although, honesty compels me to say I didn't pad the belly for a peascod. I think it's amplified foe a couple reasons in the pic, but I have put on about ten pounds since moving out of Atlantia.Tibbie Croser wrote:Anthonye, great job.
