Most of us desire to look better on the field (and off) . . .

Show off what you are wearing when you are NOT in armour (your "Soft Kit")!

Don't be shy, take the picture, post it here, and inspire others!

Unfortunately most of my kit is covered by a tabbard, I was asked to be royal guard for evening court at coronation this last weekend.

And the head shot. (ignore my house brother being a goober on the left).

Not a lot of detail shows, but I thought it was a nice picture.

Haha, it's sampling error, Paladin: I'm usually not willing to get all gussied up *unless* there are lovely ladies... or fellow odd men. 8)

Destichado- Where did you get that stool?

Thanks! :) I only have a few clothes, so I make sure they're nice clothes.

Re: the stool
I made it, one afternoon a few years back. Gave this one as an elevation gift to Mistress Crespine, but I've got the parts for another one sitting around the shop, waiting to be put together.
I'm no woodworker, so it's pretty dirt simple. Band saw, two inch hole saw, chisel and a 3/8" (IIRC) roundnose router bit.
You can see most everything you would need to put one together here. http://destichado.deviantart.com/galler ... 6#/d1w2oef

bigfredb? Where's your picture? You can't put up a request without showing your own.

I'll try to get one of my ugly mug up this weekend.

You are correct, sir.

Here is my most recent kit, haven't updated for 2013 (still in the Middle East).

I Like your attention to the garters. And the parti color split. You should get a black shoe and a white shoe! :)

I am hoping to ditch the ring belt soon. Other than that I am pretty happy with the overall look of it.

Awesome kit John!!!!

It's my understanding that you are wearing your cloak in the female style though. (IF I'm wrong PLEASE correct me) The female style is pinned in the center and worn over both shoulders as you have it. The male style is pinned at the shoulder of your sword side, leaving your sword arm exposed.

I had no idea! I will make that adjustment, for when I wander around gulf wars this year.

I got the cloak from my stepfather who trapped these critters, it consists of 3 coyote hides split and sewn together. The head and tail are cut off of the middle one to make it more symmetrical and to allow the other two heads to be pinned together through the eyes.

Dunno. Do you mean in the Middle Ages in general, or for this particular early medieval culture? There are a men with center-front-opening cloaks at http://larsdatter.com/cloaks.htm but that starts centuries after this example. Not sure what might constitute a better example of a center-front-pinned cloak closer to this time period -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bayeu ... cene23.jpg maybe?

My new sailor/mariner kit ca. 1590's-1610.

Wool cassock, grey gascon hose, and white linen canvas underneath were all handsewn by me. The thrum cap is from Sally Pointer, the knife from Tod's Stuff, the stockings from South Union Mills/Bethlehem Trading Post, and the shoes are Westland's based on a ca. 1575 Dutch example. The outfit was based on Cesare Vecellio's 1598 image of an English sailor, as well as images from Barentsz' expedition to find the Northeast Passage (published 1601) and The Mariner's Mirror (1588). I got a little overzealous in trying to make sure the cassock fit over other garments, so I made the waist and sleeves a bit long. Turned back cuffs as I have here, to my knowledge, were not a common feature of this garment or Elizabethan men's clothing in general.

Looking good, Dan. Have you seen the sailor's breeches and shirt in the Museum of London? I know Ninya Mikhaila has examined it and she may be able to tell you some details. Also, there's a Dutch shipwreck from 1590 with some pretty cool artifacts (including tools) if you want to flesh out your impression.

Thanks Tracy! I am indeed familiar with both. I'm thinking I'll be developing it as a sailmaker's kit. I know very little about sailing, but I can sew!

That's a Historic Enterprises felt hat -which to my dismay seems to have been discontinued. Glad I have a spare.

Anyway, I didn't do anything to it at all, except turn up the brim and wear it for a while. I have seen some *amazing* things done with bycockets in period art, though. The Robin Hood look doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.
