Archer's Finger Tab

Post by Chris Flagstad »

I made an archer's tab to practice leather tooling.

I'm trying to figure out a good way to do medieval foliage designs. They seem like they follow a pattern that I'm not seeing.

One theory I got from this that the little thorns/flowers that branch off hide where a bunch of small curves combine to make a larger curve

Are there any established categories for the different foliage patterns? I know I'm conflating a bunch of different designs in my head.

Makes me wish the general SCA crowd still visited this forum, because late medieval art is not an area of my expertise.

There are books on how to construct early medieval art like https://www.amazon.com/Celtic-Art-Metho ... 0486229238 Not sure what is similar for late medieval marginalia.

That looks like a useful book. Have you tried any of the exercises?

It would probably help train the eye to reverse engineer designs.
