Visigothic Garb help needed

Post by Roibeard MacNeill »

Greetings all,
My lady wife has finally (after years of costuming herself in every period from 10th to 16th century) adopted a "static" persona in SCA...a Visigoth...more specifically an early 8th Century Visigoth just before the Muslim invasion of 711. She has a couple of Migration Period pieces already but she (and I, for that matter) wanted to know if Visigothic costume would differ greatly from Ostrogothic or Frankish (because there are a few documentable examples of those particular peoples but virtually no Visigoth-specific examples). Are there other peoples and periods that we can potentially look at for ideas and/or examples?
So that no one's time is wasted we do already have a few books on Visigothic Spain and have seen a couple of Frankish Costume sites on line (primarily the site that includes artists renditions of Queen Arnegunde's clothing).
I know that this may be a long-shot but there are many knowledgeable people here. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!

Damn! First thing I thought of was Queen Arnegunde, but you already have her.

You might try for Mozarabic art - Christian (Visigothic) Spaniards under the Moors after the conquest. Rather too late, I know, but it might give you some pointers.

It's not really armour if you haven't bled on it.
