any historical pictures of this? all i've found is two reprodution ones :

which is the more period design? alos how big ar these things? are they stuffed with something or just flat leather?

I've got some books with a line drawing of the details and a couple of photographs of the original; email me direct to remind me and I'll get them to you this weekend. Now, of course, the original isn't in as nearly good shape as the original....

At the time I was there photography was allowed, but flash wasn't. So here is a crummy pic, i am sure glen has better ones. The left one is an Ivory one, the right a leather one. I was pressed for time when I was in the museum, but I did not see any evidence of padding. Hope this may help a bit untl Glen gets you his pics.

I made one of the rectangle ones with flat leather about 7 inchs across at the widest point and im not a big fan of it, it dosn't stay put on my arm unless i crank it down so tight my arm turns blue, works better over a sleeve but on skin it ends up sitting on my wrist with in minutes

i found a pic of 1/2 of one in ospreys longbowmen on page 54 i think. it also gives measurements!!

There is a York bracer a century or two earlier but made from one piece of thick leather, straps and all, which were pared thinner than the main part of the bracer, it also has decorative rosette studs/strap holes, no sewing other than the buckle. Ovoid in shape.

Sorry no pics saw it in a book recently and can't remember it but will ask.

Wolf, if you're still looking for pics, I have a book from the museum with several photographs of the bracers. It's at home, but I'll probably make the trip this week. As for materials, they all seemed to be leather with no padding, although there is one there made of something else...Ivory maybe? Or perhaps it was horn. I was just there a month ago and barely remember. The book does show that one as well though. Designs looked like they were embossed. In regards to their size, they seemed pretty small, wrapping maybe 1/2 of the arm at most (depending on how big your arm is) and around 6 inches long or so. However, I'm not to great with measurements, so I could be off.
