Hey folks-

I just wanted to post this picture from the "Quest for the Golden Seamstress" event held recently here in the Midrealm. The event is a "from the skin out", "start with flat cloth and finish with an outfit" 18-hour sewing marathon. Teams are limited to 6 people plus the model, and our team got major props because I cast all the hardware on site during the event.

Our team produced a prize-winning Burgundian ladies outfit, complete with a decorated hennin and the (pictured) belt. For scale, the belt itself is 4" wide.

The hardware was cast in lead-free pewter (since I was casting indoors in a relatively crowded room). Masters were carved and constructed from basswood, with portions made of cording, wire, polymer clay etc, and the molds were made from RTV silicon rubber. I get my casting supplies from Castings, Inc.

Oh wow. That is gorgeous. What is the belt material?

Thank you!

The belt itself is velvet over burlap webbing (selected for its durability and relative rigidity).

How cool is that? Very cool.

Where'd you get the idea for that sort of belt?

Yes, that's me in the black, acting as "Vanna White" and helping our model to display the gown and accoutrements.

I'm scratching for the citation of the portrait upon which I modelled the buckle - I'll check Lyonette's library. (Our designer and Burgundian maven).

Thanks for your comments.

4-inch wide belts were worn? Looks strange! Not my era, however, but I am looking to learn more, always.
