A start to my kit

Hi all,
I've been doing some research and talking to people here on the archive about items for a 14th century kit. so I've put together a basic list of items to be put in my kit- now remember this is just a starting phase (and this doesn't include armour) I am curentley in the proces of making/buying many of these items. so, when I get it all together I'll get some pics up.
here's the list thus far:

The double belled wedge is the one to go with if you're choosing between the two. The Museum Wedge I have never seen in any iconography.

We had one for use as a shower tent/closet, and we sold it to a later-period group as it's clearly some sort of tent that was used at some time, but it didn't pass our muster.

However, since you have a desire for furniture, let me just say that the double-belled wedge is really furniture unfriendly, unless you get it really big. If you draw out the geometry on some graph paper, you'll see that your stand up space is quite small in the smaller sizes. We bought our tent in late 2000 and we quickly came to the conclusion that a Medieval Wedge large enough to give us the stand-up area we wanted would be larger than the largest offered. The smallest tent you can probably get away with will be a Midi-Pavilion.

I think he means the double bell wedge is the one he'd go with.

You can cull that alot, for now.

remember this isn't a race, (if it was John and i have a HUGE head start, Galleron is even further along)

For most events, even crossroads all you have to feed is yourself. Maybe you and a date or your folks if they come to an event.

Kate and i can seat like 40-60 folks but thats _freakishly rare_ I probly have more feast gear than any other 10 people in the SCA combined. But thats only because Kate is really picky about the way she does feasts.

For just you, all you need is a plate a cup and maybe utensils and a napkin. One of the HE mid grade dining kits is plenty for you. The jars are nice to have too but unless your cooking you don't need the "pots and pans" yet.

For you money should go into tentage and furniture. I'm gonn try my have at making some stuff soon but your dad is a carpenter. I have a bed if you wanna take a look at it. It's a Queen so you'd wanna reduce the deminsions. But as gentry or lower you can believeably get away with just a bed roll stuffed with hay or something.

You can do the leather work yourself too.

BTW since you don't have a car yet, i'd keep the furniture small. When you get a car then see what you can haul and build around that. You'll have a heck of a time getting an 8 ft tressel table into a Geo Metro.

Question(s):

Is this for SCA? Or LH? I only ask as while somethings work for one, they may not work for or be over kill for the other.


Are you planning on outfitting a number of people? Because that list of camp stuff is, well rather exhaustive.

For now this is only for SCA- but I want it all to be living history quality- so I won't have to spend more money/making things upgrading.

As for how many people, it's for me, mabey one or two family members, and mabey a freind. most likley from one to three people.

that's so true. also why buy the bad/less quality items first only to have to spend the extra money later to upgrade or fix the item. buy the good stuff first, you won't be dissapointed.
