HEY YOU ROMANS!!

Post by MJBlazek »

My fiance and I thought it might be fun to make a roman feast for dinner tonight to celebrate the Ides of March.

Those of you who know a lot about Rome, what would you have on the menu that is relatively easy to prepare and inexpensive?

Thanks!

Roman figs.

take fresh figs, halve them, grill them till the figs start to brown, put gorgonzola cheese on top, brown under grill again, drizzle with a honey & black pepper sauce.

We were thinking about getting some sausage or somwthing and calling it roasted doormice. Or something on a stick, (im not saying that they ate things off of sticks, Im just sayign that the Hannaford sells pre sticked chicken and beef and the like.)

It is delicious. And quick & Easy.

You can just drizzle clear honey & grind black pepper to make it quicker too.

Or do a full sauce, tiny bit of butter & cornflour (If you call it that in the US, Superfine flour) roux, add honey, pepper, Dash of sherry, few drops Nam Pla, (Thai fish sauce, = Garum/Liquamen)

Eat, enjoy.

(Bother. I can't find my copy of Appicius.. )

Rejoice! He is found! (Hiding behind Mrs Beeton..)

Radishes, (Raw) with pepper sauce. (Ground pepper and Nam Pla/Liquamen)

Fresh french beans and chickpeas, (Fresh beans, tinned chickpeas/garbanzo beans, microwave or boil briefly. Heatthem dont kill them) served with salt, cumin, (Olive) oil, and a little wine.

Black pudding, I suggest frying it, & de-glazing the pan with a little wine & nampla, pour glaze over.

Spiced Sausages are good too,

That should get you through the Ides..
