Appreciate the kudos!
You should see the one Master Magnus wore at Pennsic. If we're nice maybe he'll post a pic of his.
More often than not, the whole tunic was woven on a loom in one piece. Then folded in 1/2 and stitched up the sides. The Clavi and Rondells were either woven into the garment, embroidered on, or added later.
I took a 3" wide piece of construction paper and uses it as a template (made ironing the clavi a lot easier), and stiched them on (the black linen). The olive and the gray stripes are felted wool. They were easier as no ironing was required. I cut the strips and stiched them on top.
The rondells were a giant pain and I'm not sure I did them the smartest way. Again I made a cardboard oval as a pattern (shounders -- a CD was used for the rondells on the bottom). I cut the fabrin an 1" bigger and then cut little pie slices out of the edge every 1" or so. That way I cound fold and iron the frayed edge under. Then stitched em on and put the felted wool on top.
The problem is its not really round, but more like a 20-sided die. I tried to hide the little points and had varried success.
Next time, I think I'll decorate the rondells first, and then attach them. I might even embroider them as that's something I've never done before.
Was that useful?
LMK if any of it needs clairification.
