In the picture below would this be an acceptable late 14th century kit? The places where I found it list it as a early 15th painting. Also, would it be out of place for a footsoldier in this kit to wear a kettle helm instead of a Bascinet.

I'm working towards a late 14th Century kit and a new helm is not in the cards just yet.

This style of armor and cote over it is really common 1400-1410; it may go back or forward 5 years. It is not a good ref for 14th c unless you are doing late 1390s.

Kettle hats are seen less in this era but you still see them.

Hi De Claremont,

That would work from 20 years before the turn of the century, to 20 years after, in Bohemia at any rate.

A kettlehat would be very common, but of a deeper form than seen in the early 14th century (refer to some of the late 14th century images of the militia of Paris).

A footsoldier, however, would most likely forgo the leg armour.

Great, I've currently sporting one of Whitemountain Armoury kettle helms so I think that should work. Eventually I do want to get a bascinet for this but it's good to know this will work.

After watching the Deed of Arms at Gulf War last week I'm just really jazzed about getting a late 14th kit together.

Yeppers, we sure did. I've got one of the basic styles, not the snazzy one you're sporting though. 8)

I've actually got my late 13th/early 14th kit together but I've been chomping at getting a late 14th kit going. The one hold up will be another helm as I've ordered most everything else I need/want.
