Aluminun sword hardware coloring?

Thinking about Windrose's aluminum sword hardware.
I would love to have something that is not aluminum colored.

( or the steel rondel dagger grip I've made.... )

The brass looks great but is too heavy.

I'd love to have a simple, repeatable ( for wear and tear )
process to get a more brass/gold like color....

Anodizing? Electroplating?

Anyone try the simple 'just paint it' approach?

or should I just polish it more often and keep the
'silver' color?

We've used spraypaint on the aluminum hardware with "decent" results. It passes the 10 foot rule admirably, but up close it's pretty obvious that it's paint.

Not sure how anodizing or electroplating would look. I've seen some anodized jobs that looked very modern, but that was on things like wheels. Electroplating might look just fine, but be prepared for the wear and tear of combat.

Just my $.02

Just kind of thinking out loud, but if you have the ability to cut some brass strips out, you could make some decorative type covering for the hilt and pommels I would think.

Greetings,

I scuff mine up with sandpaper and spray paint it with brass.

Last Sunday at practice somebody told me I couldn't fight while wearing a sword. Then they got a better look and flipped out.
