Ok I have been doing lots of stuff lately and here is some of the leather work. First the case; it is small and meant to hold vial pins and sewing needles. The inner compartment is 8oz leather and the outter layer is 4oz leather. The designs were insized with a knife. Pattern based on multiple examples and information in Purses in Pieces. I have not oiled the leather yet. One thing I did I think was a mistake was trimming the seams before they dried all the way.







Second item is the purse inspired by historical remains and the drawing "A Nuremburg woman in house dress" by Albrecht Dürer, c. 1500-1501. The backing is a 4oz cowhide, the front of the pouch and pouchlets are 2 oz goatskin. The leather was embossed by hand.

Nice work. Is the pouch lid in one piece with the belt hook? I can't quite make out that detail.

Funny... I was looking at exactly that same purse for/with my wife, trying to think through the patterning. Good to see your interpretation!

Yes I just folded it belt loop part in half and stitched through it like an extant purse in Purses in Pieces was done. My pouch is somewhere between the extant one and the one in the drawing.

One question, on the case you have the bottom overlapping the top. The few examples I've seen (noted that I've mostly just looked at wax tablet cases) the top overlapped the bottom. Is this a common differance?

There were a couple of examples of cases with the top overlapping the bottom but most seem to be the other way. There are two examples; one a fragment and the other a pen case, that are tops overlapping the bottom in Purses in Pieces.
