Thanks for the kind words!
Steve,
I will do my best to explain this - it's hard to describe in words.
The penner is made of 5 pieces - the insert, the lid, the bottom portion, and little disks that cap off the very top and the very bottom. The insert is made first, and it is a rectagular piece of leather. It is wet formed around a tube form, and sewn together where the edges come around and meet.
The lid and bottom portion are also rectangular pieces of leather, and they are wet formed around the insert. They are then stitched together at the back where the edges meet.
The top edge of the lid and the bottom edge of the bottom portion get bent over. The very top disk is fitted into the top of the lid portion and is sewn in. The bottom disk is fitted into the very bottom of the bottom portion and is sewn in.
Once all the pieces are dry and stitched (and tooled and dyed), the insert is covered with glue on the outside, and the bottom portion is covered with glue on the inside. Then the insert is shoved down into the bottom portion. The lid then simply slides down over the glued in insert and meets up with the bottom portion.
Hopefully that makes sense. If not, let me know and I will see if I can get some pics to demonstrate.
