Generally the mail is sewn to a leather strip which is then riveted onto the helm or held in place by vervelles.

Most folks use waxed linen or nylon.

I reccomend linen.

Several coats of a clear coat. It will need to be redone at some point though.

3 to 6 months with some touch it up during

Oh Your Grace is being modest...

What keeps the paint from coming off is not being hit.

Seriously they both look very nice. Any particular brand/type of of clear coat? I would like to get more information about your man-at-arms taking commissions.

Take care and be well,
Brogan

Here is my kit as it stands without helmet and gorget. I need to get around to finishing the greaves I began and am waiting upon an Adam Berry kettlehelm. Obviously I am not his Majesty Nigel.

Hope to be in it next year, and as you said, just honouring my lord.

Thank you sir. I would like to make some splinted rebraces to match the rest of my kit and and get some of those nifty spring steel spaulders. I could also use a set of sabotons to match my aventail. Until then I feel it is not quite complete.

Dito, just was way to humid for my northern blood. Hoping to make it again next year and have a nice rig, that works with the humidity. I ditched my mail half way through the first battle I fought.

My kit hasn't changes much, but the other weekend I wore a lamellar vest instead of my mail.

It's the same one I've been wearing for about a year and a half now. It's one that Adam and I made. Leather with 1050 spring steel plates.

I can take some pictures of the construction if you would like.

Yes please. I'm trying to choose how I want to do my COP, and what I want it to look like.

Was thinking of this one that had like 700 plates in it, then gave that up real quick.

Thank you, I do have more but need to do some resizing work and I am not very good at it. I have tried to make this kit as authentic as I can. I still have a long way to go but am getting to the point of where is enough enough. I am having new gauntlets, helmet, arms and legs made while I am on this deployment. Should finish it off nicely. Armour bits were bade by Clang, and Jeff Wasson.

Edward,

You have always put an effort into your kit and yet you have come a long way since you were here in Ansteorra last. My hats off to you my friend! Awesome kit.

Some of the suits I see here make me feel lame. Most so far look fantastic!

Image

I need to make myself a new suit completely but really will just be replacing old gear for new gear of similar form. The AA has given me so much inspiration and ideas I can't wait till I have the time and energy to adjust my gear. Want to get some chainmail and will make myself some greeves. Also plan on making myself a bascinet with a customized grotesque (wolf face) hounskull shaped face and camaile(?). Maybe some pauldrens as well don't know yet. Cant wait..... When I get around to it I will certainly post pics if it turns out right.

Thanks archivers :D

Heck, I'm just impressed that you wear plate. I had inferred otherwise...

It's pretty sporty but plate yeah. Actuually just needs a little tune up in design to be something more period which is why I want to get some chainmail, greeves and make a new helmet.

I made everything I wear though so I call it custom LOL that's my excuse and I'm stickin to it. Custom armor was always period 8)

You have a good SCA presence Johno. I think you could easily add greaves to those legs and make a nice jump. Even the leather covered plastic would be quick & cheap. Glad your getting the historical bug.

Post as you change things.

Thanks. I've had the bug for a while but since finding the AA and reading through the armoring forums I have this concept eating at my creative side to get my ass in the shop and make better gear.

I have been very inspired by all of the amazing craftsmen that are so kind as to show us all the progress of their great works.

Actually, you don't look as bad as you say. And nothing like I had thought you would look at all.

And, simple greaves would instantly make a huge improvement in the total look of the harness.

Otherwise, it's still better than the majority of armor out there.
