This is one of those inter-Kingdom things. Having played around with some Ansteorran notables with bastage swords, I can tell you Ansteorra interprets the rules about grasping, trapping, and grappling more leniently than most other Kingdoms. Shoulder-checking is pretty much the norm in bastard sword fights there, for instance. The sort of "not-quite-grasping-or-trapping" Audax is describing sounds like exactly the sort of thing Ansteorrans would have no problem with but many other Kingdoms' marshals would look at askance.
Yes.

Thor.
nor may it be trapped in contact with the fighter’s body as a means of preventing the opponent’s use of the weapon. Armored hands may grasp the haft of an opponent’s weapon.
and Section B. The striking surface of a weapon in motion may not be grasped or blocked by the hands or limbs as a means of
impeding a blow.

YOu don't ever really grasp the blade, you simply press against the sword.
I usually use the back of my hand so as to avoid the temptation to grab the blade.
Perhaps it would be easier to demonstrate that describe. I'm too cranky to get into a big debate about it right now.
I hate having to get up early. Makes me grumpy and incoherent.
It would be an honor to meet you face to face and show what I mean. But it would have to be after noon. Getting up at 6:30am makes me all kinds of cranky.

YOu are trying to throw the moulinet from too far out. It's not a threat, people can see it coming a mile away. You are also using too much wrist and not enough body to move the blow. That is why it looks mechanically wrong to Leo Medii. If you watch Duke Gaston or Duke Baldar throw the moulinet, they keep their arms closer to their bodies. YOu are trying to do it with your arm almost fully extended.
.
Is a moulinet even proper for armored combat? I meant would it realistically take out someone in chain armor or even penetrate a helmet? I thought it was a fencing move but I really dont know.
I noticed many moves in the SCA just dont seem like they would take out an opponent. I am still new and dont know all the names. I am still learning. The one move where they flip the sword around over the top and into the side of the helm. Would, that ever penetrate a helmet or take out the opponent in real life?
Just wondering. I understand its more of a sport. Still interesting to know if the blow could kill or not.

Would they, maybe or maybe not. Not all strokes of a sword should be meant to be killing blows. Working toward that goal is the idea. If you can hits someone hard enough to unbalance, stun or disorient them then you are working toward that goal. I know of a few people that have enough strength that can throw a moulinet hard enough to knock my 200 pound butt sideways if it connects. Therefore I am off balance and they have a better chance of getting a killing stroke in.
Also remember that SCA fighting has evolved into a telling blow calling system. Was the shot hard enough for me to tell you, yeah that could have hurt me without actually doing damage to myself. Different mindset there.

Cool thanks for the info.
