Open Practice, January 23

Post by Black Swan Designs »

We had such a blast at yesterday's practice with our little skill at arms competition that I'm going to do it again in an expanded format for the Open Practice on the 23rd.

ImageImage

For those not participating in the joust/quintain practice, I will be running a Skill at Arms competition as follows:

12 courses per competitor, in 4 events:

3 courses, ground spear (graduated value targets)
3 courses, rings (graduated size and valued rings)
3 courses, Moor's head (dislodge target from pole w/ club)
3 courses, tent pegging (graduated size and valued targets)

I am offering prizes for the first 3 places.

This is open to Knight School students and other interested parties. If you have a horse and would like to participate, please contact me at gwen @ historicenterprises.com. Competitors who are not regular attendees of Knight School should plan to arrive at 10 for a riding/horse evaluation and pre-event practice.

Practice starts at 10, competition at 12:00. Equipment will be provided.

A reminder that our Open Practice is this weekend.

In addition to the Skill at Arms Competition, there will be a Pollaxe Tournament using our 15th C. pollaxe simultors and modified rules from the Tournament of the Phoenix. We also have SCA rubber/rattan poleaxes for newbies. You and your opponent will decide on grappling and the like.

For more information, see the thread on the WorldJoust Forum

We have a couple for the skill at arms, and 6 for the pollaxe tourney- should be a fun day!! 8)

Please contact me if you're interested- gwen@historicenterprises.com

Although the rain cancelled the foot combat, we still managed a bunch of horsie stuff.

Knight School is held the first Saturday of the month. Open practices are held whenever a bunch of people want to come out and play. Watch the WorldJoust Forum for updates.

All are welcome!

4 guys in full armour....11 people total.......not bad for a day's fun!

...on a personal note, it was really awesome seeing 4 guys together at once all in armour that I'd made. A first for me, I think.

Someone else needs to open an East Coast branch!

The two times I have been down to work with Jeff and Gwen and the other folks have been a great deal of fun and extremely helpful as well. If you're within range I highly recommend it.

Best,

John
