Just a reminder: This Saturday is Agrippa day, with classes and book signings.

We will be will be hosting a WMA Judging Workshop on April 24th from 12pm to 4pm. The workshop will cover how to direct, score, and judge a traditional or historical fencing bout. Included will be opportunities to fence, direct, and to judge. The emphasis will be on running a tournament bout smoothly. The workshop will first show the classical judging method and then expand it to historical fencing in both a timed and points-based format. Participants should come prepared with full safety equipment: a minimum of mask, fencing jacket, glove(s), cup, long pants, and shoes. Loaner fencing jackets and masks are available. To register contact the museum at (508) 853-6015 or higgins@higgins.org.

Finally, we'll have a bâton seminar on March 20 from 11a-1p, based on traditional martial arts systems from France and Italy. Topics will include manipulating the weapon, footwork, fencing theory as applied to the bâton, attack/defense drills, and the advanced artistic acrobatics that make baton such an exciting spectacle. Workshop participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing with long pants and athletic footgear. Loaner equipment is supplied, but we recommend bringing fencing equipment and heavy gloves (lacrosse, hockey, Revival kevlar gloves, etc.) if you have them. The cost is $2, the class is open to age 16 and up, and space is limited. For inquiries and reservations, contact the museum at (508) 853-6015.

Yours,

Ken
