Ottoman maces?????

Post by Benedek »

I need pics of Ottoman maces. I've got an idea that may work for an SCA mace that should turn out pretty neat, but my collection of images on these is fairly slim, can anyone help me?

Thanks

I'll have to get my museum catalogs back from Cristobal's, but I do have some good pics.

Shawn Caza's paper is still a great source:

I once spotted a tractor drive shaft with a six-sided star section which would have made a number of great cucumber maces.

I guess I could throw another question in for the educated folks here.

Do we have an estimate on how long these things should be? At least a window to work within. I know it's going to be an SCA project weapon but I'd like to make an attempt at doing one right.

I've started on a crazy idea on how to make a mace look really sinister with easily obtained SCA legal materials.

Just went through the copy of the book I recommended to you (Splendors of the Ottoman Sultans) - the only book I have with me at my current residence - and the three examples are 26.75", and the other two are 27 inches.

As soon as I can get to a scanner, I'll post images.

It's much appreciated, but I ordered the book in question from amazon just today. I couldn't pass it up. Used in new condition only came to about $14 bucks after shipping.

I'll just have to wait (not so)patiently until it gets there.

Thanks
