This past weekend was the Barony of Iron Mountain’s arts and science event, Magna Faire. Grouped with that, as it was last year, was our Sword and Mistletoe Tourney. In addition to the tourney, we had a melee, and the Company of St. Olaf hosted a Pas de’ Armes. We also hosted tournaments in all four divisions of youth combat!

The winners were: Sword and Mistletoe Tourney – Ld. Caius Aurelius; The Bayeux Tapestry Grand Melee – Johann Broadamoar; and for the Pas, the gallery voted THL Alexander Britehelmston, aka Lex, as the one most deserving and exemplary of the chivalric virtues.

I must say that I am pleased with the attitudes of the fighters in our kingdom. Having taken over the role of Knights’ Marshall literally days before the event, no specifics of the tourney were announced. In addressing the fighters, I asked that everyone try to swap weapons styles from sword and shield every other round, but since there wasn’t time to publish this previously, I would leave it up to their discretion to actually switch weapons styles and when. Everyone did this on their own honor.

As a follow up, THL Brandr Wyborn, known here simply as Brandr, was THE ONLY combatant in the Sword and Mistletoe tourney to not only request his whole name be used, but gave his heraldic description to be used.

For those who were at our fighters collegium last month know that there was a curia in which field presentation was discussed. It was strongly recommended that fighters attempt to make more of an effort for the all around display of the tourney, not just their kit and their skill.

Hats off to THL Brandr for standing up to the requests of our E.M. !!!

(it will be duely noted in my report Image )
