OUCH. I'm not one of those.

Between you and me if I had to fight in that kind of heat all the time I'd have a shield big enough for flight operations and wear as little armor as possible myself. Same for Meridies, Atenveldt, and a couple other kingdoms I've been hit in the head too many times to remember the names of.

But enough of that - we were talking about Caid now. I'm a westerner now, but I must confess a great fondness for my old home kingdom. Please, tell me more friend.

To me once you get a full layer on it doesn't really get any hotter but that seams to be the arrgument for large shields. I'm fine with large shields as long as they're period. I thought caid was greek not medieval?

Lord Zorro does appear to be an experienced sca fighter - I hope I shall read more carefully considered and informative posts in the future from him.

For what it is worth, I think there is little risk of sca combat being watered down, although I could be wrong. From 3rd round on in West Crown I was swinging for the fence and no one batted an eyebrow. YMMV

We should all be careful of intemperate remarks, and I want to say that I have nothing but the greatest respect for the Great Kingdom of Ansteorra. I do not know them on the tournament field, but at Pennsic in the mid 90's epic battles town between Ansteorra and Calontir/Outlands. Contests I will remember fondly for the rest of my days, including a clever ruse de guerre.
