Anyone have a good source for research on Scotland and Ireland and the Crusades?

Well, for one thing, it wouldn't be Celts and the Crusades, it would be Scots and Irish going on Crusade. I do know that James of Douglas went on Crusade to Spain after Robert the Bruce died, taking the king's heart with him, so that the Bruce could go on Crusade as well. I dunno about the Irish.

I'v often wonderd what role the Irish played in the crusades myself.
because my maternal grandfathers family came to the U.S. from CO.Clare Ireland, their last name is mullins from the gealic O'maolain meaning decendent of the bald/tonsured one.

our coat of arms fetures a scaracens head which I have learned means that the bearer killed or took prisoner an important islamic leader or somthing like that.
so I'm betting the Irish did play a role, though how large a role I know not. so I'm just as interested in the subject.

Are you crazy? Celts on a CRUSADE? everyone knows the entire populus of scotland and ireland, as well as much of europe was hard core goddessfaeriewicca pagan.

Ireland and Scotland by that time were pretty much Christianized, from my readings. I am aware that they were part of the Crusades but was curious about who went.

I was thinking of a persona of someone who was against the Crusades and not Christian, as I myself would find it difficult to act as a Christian, even in persona..

Your right, most of europe was christian by that point, I was being sarcastic and commenting on the plethora of SCA "Pagan genericelts"

Seriously, though, as far as Irishmen or Scots during the time of the Crusades, I think finding a non-Christian would have been nigh unto impossible.

I had thought that as well, or those that were not would not be open about it.

Irish on Crusades,try reading about some of the Popes bodygaurds during those times ,many were Irish ,especially the clans of the DalCas and the Inoquinns of Cnty.Clare,and those Clans of the North who were in direct servive to the Bishops of Antrium and Armagh through thier clan chieftains and nobles of the times
