These pics and videos always help put it into perspective. While fighting, it's chaos. In pictures we look like a bunch of 14th century dudes wailing on each other.

This year was special for me, and I'd like to thank everyone involved, again, for helping it be. I don't overwhelm easily, but this year it was a very near thing.

Thinking back on the year that it was such a big deal to just field my entire retinue in 14th century gear, looking at these pics is a wonder. So many great kits and solid effort...

I of coarse mean grappling in the SCA legal way; grappling weapons, not tossing people around It was great fun but man does it wear you out fast.

yeah, all that damned incidental contact. especially the dude that had his arm "incidentally" wrapped around the back of my neck as he repeatedly stabbed me in the face with his dagger. it took him 6-7 stabs before he realized that it was going to take a really long time to dig through my visor and shifted to my neck. stoopid me forgot my own dagger (and spiffy arron schnatterly scabard) in camp and had to take it like a bitch. of all the CotTs' I've fought, I liked this one the most. Each year we get better looking and it seems more determined in our focus on the field.

It's funny. I just looked at the pics Ursus posted (thanks again Ursus) of the CotT and the emotions come right back to the surface. I have been unable to look at the pics or the vids that have surfaced without being somewhat overcome with emotions this year. I know that is has a lot to do with not being able to fight as I was still awaiting my knee surgery but it also had a lot to do with feeling helpless to sway the out come of this year's CotT.

I look forward to this deed more than some might imagine. Yes, the joy of martial combat in regular SCA fighting has continued to swell within me over these last few years, at an accelerated pace in fact, but it has been the quest for deeds that has been my driving force and motivation for quite some time. It has helped me overcome my poor performances in many Crown Tourney's. Now I just look at Crown as a deed of arms. I make a vow and the terms are set by the Crown and then I do my best to make good on my vow. Not completely accurate but my frail human mind can bend itself to see things that way.

I still haven't been able to compose many rational thoughts about this years CotT. Maybe soon though as I am now post-op on the knee and can start focusing past the surgery and about the next deed to tackle. I look forward to the next CotT as I lead the French unit to glory that will outlast our human shells.
