I was hoping to get a bit more input before posting, but ah well.

A) I'm the idiot with the shield. It's tracking his sword arm. If his sword arm wasn't over his head, the shield wouldn't be. It never touched his head.
B) The knight is Duke Patrick Michael. After the fight he said, "GREAT FIGHT!"
C) The other fighter is a good friend. He was yelling WHOOOHOOO!!! the whole time we were fighting. He belly slammed into me. Fights florentine with a sword and spear. Well, sword may be stretching it...it's a short club. He outweighs me by probably 70 pounds. It's the fight he wanted.

edited to correct typo only.

I was also curious to see what the comments were before I commented. I fought Ozzie (the Big guy in the yellow.) at a fight the knight the next day. For a guy who likes to fight with out a shield (spear and Short sword) he sometimes fights real up close and personal. Knowing both fighters, I would not have given the picture a second thought, figuring that Ozzie was the one who moved into Morgan.

This comment is very unlike what I have seen from you before. And I am that lucky guy who gave morgan that belt and I am lucky to have him as a squire. So am I also and Idiot Image

I really was hoping for further discussion...unless everyone is just thinking "Ansteorran thugs" that is. Image

Actually, and even if they did think "Ansteorran thugs" I'd be ok with it. Image I LIKE Ansteorra's style of fighting. It is neither to hard nor to flicky. It fits me jusssttt right.

Sir Richard, I figured you were just being flippant Image

LOL. Hi guys, I was being flippant.

I just found out about the rest of these posts, I never looked at it until today when Morgan communicated that I was calling him an idiot. My reaction was "Huh?". So he pointed me to this thread.

Based on the context of the thread and Morgan's comment on the photo I thought he was posting an example of somebody hitting another with a shield and then riding them with it.

Seriously though, if they were doing what I thought originally, I would think it was in violation of the rules and idiotic. I merely tried to make a joke of my reaction. Sorry for any offense taken. I should perhaps have bracketed the parody with smilies, but I thought it was obvious I was busting chops.

Image In the other thread you said, "... the reality is I do think that people that whack each other with shields on purpose or make contact in violation of the rules are acting like idiots, ... Two guys whacking and riding each other with shields while the marshal watching the fight let it happen."

I agree, people who make illegal shield contact are idiots. I think that here in Ansteorra we just have a bit wider view of what we believe is acceptable than other places. Image But the couple times I've been punched in the face and almost knocked off my feet, I did protest a bit. Image

On the last note, I don't think anyone was offended. You can tell from Dunk's comments that he thought that your serious-sounding comments were out of character. We now know they were less serious than they sounded, and therefore not really out of character. Image

I fight two swords most of the time and I get my share of shield to the face time. Personally people can "place" their shield on me were ever. It's the impact of those sharp rigid corners that I don't like. I CHOOSE to fight with out a shield. If I throw out the tactic of shield rushing an opponant by doing that how am I being fair? I push on shields with my swords and they can push my swords with thiers. I also block the sword arm with my sword. If the put thier shield in the way of mine I call that a block.

On a side note Morgan is this the practice I'll be at in Dallas? If so I want to change my statement to "I think shields should be illegal there is just too much chance for injury".

No, that pic was taken at a King's Champion tournament. Image You were thinking about showing up at a Wednesday practice, right? That's a pretty straight s/sh practice, sadly. The Sunday practice (the official Baronial practice) usually has non-s/sh weapons being tossed about, however.
