Practicing when there is no one to fight.

Just a little background: I am in a small town and besides the lack of sunshine around here there aren't very many fighters (approx 3 armoured including myself and my wife). This as you can see makes it difficult to practice effectively, besides doing endless hours on the oh, so, great pell.
I wanted to see how others out there deal with the problem of not having someone to practice fighting with.

In service to the Archive and the Dream,

I'm in a large barony and have the same problem. No one comes to practice.

I just pell and get really irritated.

pell and foot work.
different varities of pell also help to keep it intertaining.

I hear you but is just the pell enough?

I mean you can run around all day hitting it with a stick, but it doesn't fight back so you can't learn a good defense or very good shot placement(looking for the openings on an opponent).
The closest I have gotten to learning a defense while using my pell is when the base came apart and the pell fell on me Image
needless to say the pell won that round.

Purpleheart armories has an information page on several types of pells, including some quintain style pells that hit back.

Get a cheap full length mirror, stand in from of it with sword and shield swing slowly, and watch for anything that starts to open up as you move.
Start aiming for anything in your reflection that moves out from behind the shield
It's not great, but it helps

well disciplined parctices with others... spar your wife or the other person but only with your shield make her attack you constantly... then switch.... spar withour shields only with swords from a shield stance... (shield side are not considered targets and should not be hit) that will make you more effective at sword blocking... Spar for longer periods of time for endurance... strap a weight to the inside of your shield....
