For those of us who wish to talk about the many styles and facets of recreating Medieval armed combat.

straping a heater shield?

Post by sedric »

When straping a heater do you place the handle and arm strap ON the ballance point,
or just above/below ?
I just made a test heater from 1/2 plywood
(this one will be flat, the aluminium one will be curved)I'm trying a smaller more refined heater set up, to see if I like it or not.

For me I put the wrist on the balance point, arm strap just above it. Moving the arm strap changes the balance significantly. Takes a little getting used to but I like it.

I was taught to find the natural angle you like to hold your arm. Then balance your shield on a broom at that angle and strap on that line. It's not for everyone but it works for me.

My knight has me strap my shield like Verbrand suggests...we basically figure out how I can best, comfortably hold my arm for the longest time...and then we do it that way. Seems to work out.

Same as above, but make sure the heater is in the proper position when you figure out that comfort area. I knew someone who strapped a heater comfortably only to have it be worthless since he couldn't move his arm enough to put the points where they should be.

(^_^)
